From Vienna International Airport

Vienna International Airport is about 20 km from the city centre of Vienna, which can easily be reached by train (S-Bahn), Airport Bus Shuttle, CAT (City Airport Train), or taxi.

  • Train (S-Bahn) S7

  • To get to the train, follow the sign “S-Bahn” in the airport arrival hall. Take line S7, travel time: around 25 minutes (two trains per hour, at XX:18 and XX:48). At stop Wien Mitte/Landstrasse, change to subway U3 (orange line), direction Ottakring. Get off at stop Volkstheater. You can buy the ticket (for two zones!) at the ticket machine in the train station (4.40 Euro incl. public transport in Vienna).

  • Airport Bus Shuttle

    There are regular buses from the airport to
    - Wien Morzinplatz/Schwedenplatz (with connection to undergrounds U1 and U4)
    - Wien Dörfelstrasse/Meidling (with connection to underground U6)
    - Wien Westbahnhof (with connection to undergrounds U3 and U6)

    The bus station is directly in front of the airport arrival hall. Buses leave every 20 to 30 minutes. It takes around 30 minutes to get to Vienna. Tickets (6 Euro) can be bought on the bus or from the ticket machine. Tickets are only valid for the shuttle bus, not for public transport in Vienna!

    Participants who want to go directly to the conference venue from the airport are advised to take the airport bus to Wien Westbahnhof and get off at stop Volkstheater.

  • City Airport Train (CAT)

    The CAT takes you to the City Air Terminal (Wien-Mitte/Landstrasse, undergrounds U3 and U4) in 16 minutes. CATs leave the airport every half hour from 6:05 am to 11:35 pm and the City Air Terminal from 5:38 am to 11:08 pm. Several airlines offer check-in services at the City Air Terminal.

    Online ticket: Single ticket 9 Euro / Return ticket 16 Euro
    At ticket machine: Single ticket 10 Euro / Return ticket 18 Euro
    On board: Single ticket 12 Euro (Tickets are only valid for the CAT, not for public transport in Vienna!)

  • Taxi

    The taxi stand at the airport is in front of the arrival hall. It takes about half an hour to get to the city centre (approx. 30 - 35 Euro). To go from the city to the airport, either ask your hotel to book an airport taxi or call one of the following taxi companies (all of them offer special fares to the airport): 31300, 40100, 60160, 81400 or 1716.

From the railway stations

  • Wien Westbahnhof

    Take underground U3 (orange line), direction Simmering. Get off at stop Volkstheater.

  • Wien Bahnhof Meidling

    Take underground U6 (brown line), direction Floridsdorf. At stop Westbahnhof change to underground U3 (orange line), direction Simmering. Get off at stop Volkstheater.

  • Wien Hauptbahnhof

    Take underground U1 (red line), direction Leopoldau. At stop Karlsplatz change to U2 (purple line; only one direction from this stop), get off at stop Volkstheater.

Public Transport in Vienna

Vienna has an efficient public transportation system. You can easily purchase tickets at the ticket machines in Vienna or online.

The 72-h Vienna ticket (15.40 Euro) or the weekly pass (16.20 Euro, from Monday to next Monday 9am) are economic ways of moving around in Vienna.

For those who plan to do some sightseeing while they are in Vienna, the Vienna Card (19.90 Euro) might be the right choice. It is also valid for 72 hours and entitles you to reduced rates when visiting museums, exhibitions, etc. You can buy the Vienna Card at the airport, in most hotels or order it online.

Within the city limits, single-way tickets (2.20 Euro) for public transport are valid for buses, trams and undergrounds. For general information on public transport and the different kinds of tickets please see Wiener Linien (button for English language is in the upper right corner).
